The Legacy

Updated: 6 days ago

Casualties of Mars is a term given to the descendants, survivors, and remnants of those who lived, fought, and died during the Fall of the Planet Mars, an event that shattered the once-great civilization and sent its people fleeing, into the cosmos.

They are not a singular group, but rather a lineage of warriors, rebels, and exiles who now roam the Thirteen Star Systems, carrying with them the pain, legacy, and unfinished battles of their ancestors. Some became mercenaries, some revolutionaries, and others mythic warriors who shaped the fate of entire star systems. Mars was once the jewel of humanity’s first interstellar expansion—a bastion of advanced civilization, military power, and technological superiority, but then everything changed.

An ancient and powerful extra-terrestrial race called The Curak sought to claim Mars as their own seeing it as a perfect launch point for their empire’s expansion into Sol.

Their armies descended upon Mars, wielding advanced energy weapons and gravity-bending technology. The Martian Defense Forces despite their strength, were not prepared for an all-out war against an enemy who had mastered interdimensional warfare.

The war lasted 47 years, and by the end of it, Mars was dying.

The Curak launched a final strike using planetary disruptors to destabilize Mars' atmospheric generators. Within weeks Martian cities were left exposed to the raw vacuum of space, billions died as the air thinned, the water evaporated and the planet’s surface became an uninhabitable wasteland.

Thousands of warships, transport vessels, and refugee fleets fled Mars, scattering across the Thirteen Star Systems. Some found sanctuary on Velmara, others sought refuge in independent star colonies but nowhere felt like home. Those who survived became nomads, warriors, and outcasts, forever marked as, the Casualties of Mars.

Although Mars is a dead world, its legacy still lives on through the bloodlines of its greatest warriors, tacticians, and survivors.

Born three generations after the Fall, Drake Vance was raised on the tales of Mars’ glory and its tragic end. Though he became a smuggler and rogue, he carried his ancestors’ hatred for the Curak, refusing to work with them or their allies. His stolen freighter the Black Mongoose still bears a Martian battle insignia on its hull.

A direct descendant of Mars' elite spy network, Lyra Kane was trained in ancient Martian combat techniques. She wears a modified Derjent T3 Plasma Dagger, which was crafted by her great-grandfather, a blacksmith during the Fall of Mars. Known for covert assassinations and sabotage missions, she sees herself as a quiet avenger for her fallen home world.

Born to a lost Martian bloodline, Khan Dorn was raised among the Knights of Karock, where he swore to one day reclaim Mars or destroy those responsible for its fall. He wields a reforged Martian war blade, rumoured to be made from the remains of a crashed Martian dreadnought.

Tessa Vorn is one of the few surviving Martian engineers, responsible for modifying star ships and battle gear using lost Martian tech. She’s the only known person to have rebuilt an ancient Martian Zero-G Combat Suit, a piece of Armor that hasn’t been seen in centuries.

Though their home is gone, the Casualties have left a permanent mark on the galaxy, shaping conflicts, politics, and warfare across the known systems.

A faction of Martian exiles fought alongside The Galactic Justice to prevent the Overlord Dominion from enslaving a key planet. Their tactics and technology helped win the battle, proving that the Casualties were still a force to be reckoned with.

A Martian strike team infiltrated an Overlord Dominion flagship, executing their leader and crippling Dominion operations in three systems. This proved that even without a home world, Martians were still warriors capable of reshaping history.

While the Curak continued their expansion, the Casualties formed underground networks to sabotage their influence. Their Covert operations included, Sabotaging Curak-controlled colonies, Stealing advanced Curak warships and reverse-engineering their tech and Targeting Curak diplomats and erasing their footholds in newly colonized planets.

Though their numbers are scattered, their mission is not over. Some Casualties still dream of reclaiming Mars, believing they can restore the planet with the right technology. Others seek revenge, swearing that the Curak will suffer for what they did.

But a few… have moved on, becoming smugglers, mercenaries,

and legends in their own right.

But one thing is certain, As long as even one survivor still breathes, the spirit of Mars will never die.The Casualties are not just warriors, not just exiles, not just ghosts of a forgotten planet, they are the last hope of a world that should never have fallen.

And one day, whether through war, diplomacy, or just sheer defiance, they will remind the galaxy that Mars still exists, if not as a planet, then as an idea.
